The Problem

If you handle cash regularly -- running a market stall, managing a small shop, organising charity collections, or just trying to keep track of a household budget in a world that still runs partly on notes and coins -- you know how tedious and error-prone it is.

Counting cash at the end of the day, reconciling what you took with what you expected, splitting bills, tracking where money actually went. Most budgeting apps assume everything is digital. They sync with bank feeds and track card transactions. But if a meaningful portion of your money moves in cash, those apps leave a gap.

Cash Buddy was built to fill that gap.

What Cash Buddy Does

Cash Buddy is a free UK budget dashboard that combines several tools into one interface:

• Financial overview -- see your total income, expenses, and net balance at a glance with category breakdowns

• Budget settings -- set spending limits by category and track how close you are
• Bill Wizard -- quickly split and calculate shared expenses
• Data export/import -- back up your data as JSON and restore it on any device

Everything runs locally in your browser. No registration, no server, no data collection. Your financial information stays on your device.

Why We Built It

The idea came from helping a friend who runs a market stall. At the end of every Saturday, she would sit with a pile of notes and coins, a notebook, and a phone calculator, trying to work out what she had taken, what she had spent on stock and pitch fees, and whether the day was actually profitable.

There was no free tool that let her quickly log income and expenses, see a running total, and plan her budget around an irregular income. The banking apps could not help because half her transactions were cash. Spreadsheets were too fiddly on a phone. Dedicated budgeting apps all wanted her to connect her bank account, which missed the point entirely.

Cash Buddy is the tool we wished existed. It works on any device, loads instantly, and does not assume your money is all digital.
